Black Rock Cafe, located at Marine Drive in Widemouth Bay, Bude, is a gem for food lovers seeking variety and value. This café has earned a reputation as a local favorite, particularly for its diverse menu that transcends typical café fare. With dishes like the standout buttermilk chicken burger and a tantalizing selection of baguettes, including prawns in Marie Rose sauce and the classic bacon or sausage, there's something for every palate. The ambience is relaxed and welcoming, complemented by polite and friendly staff who enhance the dining experience. Visitors often highlight the café's clean environment and its dog-friendly policy, making it an ideal stop for beachgoers and families alike. The café’s location—being the sole eatery on Black Rock Beach—adds to its charm, yet surprisingly, prices remain reasonable, a point appreciated by many, including those with a Blue Light Card. Coffee is another highlight, noted for its quality, while the dirty fries and nachos entice with toppings like BBQ pulled pork and homemade chili. Patrons like Jimmie commend the cheesy chips for their uniform cheesy goodness, setting Black Rock Cafe apart from its counterparts. Overall, each visit promises delightful discoveries, making it a worthy destination for a satisfying meal after a beach day.

This place is clearly a local favourite, so a bit of patience when ordering is needed. We visited on a rainy afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by the variety on offer—not just your typical cafe options. With the recent launch of a new menu, there’s something for everyone, and the selection is genuinely impressive. The buttermilk chicken burger is a definite highlight—crispy, full of flavour, and very generously portioned. What really stood out, though, was the pricing. Considering its prime location as the only eatery on Black Rock beach, the overall cost was refreshingly reasonable. A lovely extra: they accept the Blue Light Card, even on Kelly’s ice creams. Just remember to mention it when ordering.

First time here even though I've lived nearby for over 5 years. Breakfast was lush and great value for money. Staff friendly and service was great.

Great food at very reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and helpful, and food was served fairly quickly at a busy time of the year. The cheesy chips ordered were cheesy throughout, which I was very impressed by as most places similar to this just dump some cheese on top of the chips. Highly recommended.

We go in the cafe for a cooked breakfast when we're on holiday and it's lovely. Staff are friendly too. Lovely homemade cakes.

We often call in for a snack after dog walking. Super dog friendly cafe and ok with sandy boots and damp dogs! We usually have sandwiches but went for the soup this time as we were quite cold. Both the Carrot and Coriander and the Carrot and Ginger were devine, hot, tasty, nicely presented and plenty of it, with warm fresh bread and butter and a goodly price. Who needs The Dartmoor Inn or Coombeshead when you can get this quality - keep it up Black Rock!

Great choice of food, drink and refreshments. Situated just off the carpark of Widemouth Bay. Toilets available for both customers and non customers which are accessible outside. We had a tuna and cheese panini and tuna baguette, and delicious side of chips. All very tasty. We ordered to take away so we could head back on the beach. Sadly you can't buy alcohol to take away from the premises, but there are plenty of tables outside to consume your food and drink if you want it. Great spot, service, choice. Definitely recommend.
